Garden Update

So I planted our first garden at our house back in May and I'm very happy with the results! Braden loves to be in the garden with me and help dig. Just trying to teach him to pull weeds and NOT the vegetables! He loves to dig with some help from Dollarama shovels and some little gardening tools I bought for him at Heritage Park the other day (more on that later!)

The corn never survived...or blended in too much with the weeds to tell a difference! Some of the peas didn't grow but everything else is looking good! Next year I will have to mark my rows so that we actually know where things are to make rototilling and weed control easier in the beginning stages.

We sure are blessed to live in such a beautiful place, aren't we? For those wondering, we're an hour east of Calgary on an acreage. We built our house 1 mile west of the family farm.

Braden and I get out and weed at least once a week. I can do it for about an hour, but then the belly and/or the knees give out and I'm done....and have to come in and lay down for an hour or so to recover!

So I'm pretty proud of my little garden and I can't wait for fresh veggies at the end of the summer! We'll have peas, carrots, green beans, romaine lettuce, onions, and red potatoes!
Hilling potatoes in the garden after supper before bath time. This boy would live outside if I let him! We spent almost all day outside it was so nice! ☀
Then we came out after supper and Jay and Braden hilled the potatoes! I'm so thankful for the summer weather we've had this week. It's making all of us much happier, especially Braden!

P.S. Lazy mommy took all these pictures, unedited, with her iPhone. Not bad eh!? Speaking of "eh" Happy Canada Day to us from  you. Here's our Canada Days from years past and present. (Okay, his 2012 picture is from last weekend...but we aren't going out for celebrations today because we're going to church and then mama has to go back to work!

  1. Your land is absolutely breath taking. I must get to that part of Canada at some point. I also really want to visit Toronoto and the Hockey Hall of Fame. We will be bringing the boys when they are older, hopefully the will love hockey as much as us! :) Love your veggie garden. I say I will do a garden every year but then I just have too much going to even try. Maybe when I'm retired! ;)

  3. Can we come live on your farm?! I can see my dog running around those big fields like the happiest dog on earth! So beautiful!

I love the little garden. We don't have much of a garden for lennox help out in here this year, but at school they have a garden they have to take care of everyday (traditional in montessori schools) - I can't wait to get some of their fruit and veggies!

    1. Haha, we are very blessed to live on this gorgeous piece of land. Our dog loves it too...but she is contained to our 7 acres now!
