A lot of people having been asking me lately "is Braden excited about being a big brother?" and "so what does Braden think of the baby?" Well, Braden is only 2.5 but he's a smart little guy. He loves his little baby cousins Abby & Blake and he does know that there is a growing baby in my tummy. What he doesn't know, which would be impossible to explain to him at his age, is that one day, in about 11 weeks or so (ACK!) the baby will come out of my tummy, mommy will disappear for a day or two [insert tears here], and then mommy will come home with this baby. And then we'll keep it. And then it will have mommy's (almost) undivided attention for quite some period of time! Braden has never had seperation anxiety from me or really shown any signs of jealousy towards me spending time with other (especially younger) children. But, I guess we'll see!
In the meantime, Abby has provided us with almost 2 weeks worth of Big Brother Boot Camp in 2 separate visits! Jess was so amazingly patient with Braden, I really appreciated that. In training Braden is learning
Not to slam doors
To be quiet when baby is sleeping (even to this day when I tell him to be quite he responds "Baby Abby is sleepin'!")
To be gentle
Not to pick up babies - also no hitting, kicking, etc even if babies are kicking their legs around!
I'm sure there's much much much more things that we need to address...but he'll learn soon enough! Abby reeeeeeeeeally makes me want a girl, but then Blake reeeeeeeeeeeeally wants me to have another little baby boy! Braden was so gentle and sweet when he met Blake at the hospital, I can't wait for him to be a big brother!
Here's a video I took of Abby & Braden when Jess & Abby were here staying with us a month ago. Braden and I taught her how to imitate us, didn't happen to catch it again on camera, but I just love the way he interacts with her. he really is a sweet little boy!
Aaaaand one more for those of you whose ovaries are aching for a baby girl!
Also, I'm 29 weeks pregnant today...and I only have 2 more shifts left...and I will be done work on Wednesday morning...and I am SO happy! Braden's been under the weather which means extra snuggles for me...and I ain't complainin'!
It's so difficult isn't it, to answer that question! While I was pregnant, we talked about the baby a lot with Daniel, and he seemed to like the idea of having a baby in our house, but there was no way to explain the way it would change his life! That's so great, that he's been able to slowly get used to having babies around! Daniel's a fantastic big brother, and I'm sure Braden will be too! Hope he feels better soon! Xxx
My ovaries are aching for another girl! Or boy really. Someday. I can't believe you are 29 weeks. Weird how it seems like your delivery is still SO far away & strange to think at that point I was just 1 week away from delivering. Actually what my ovaries ache for is a "normal" LONG full-term pregnancy. Glad Braden is getting in some good "training!"
11ish weeks is still a long ways away...and I'm a-okay with that!! I can't believe you delivered at 30 weeks...and your babes are all so healthy and smart and wonderful! Such blessings! I bet you'd feel like a million bucks with a singleton pregnancy! ;)
"and then mommy will come home with this baby. And then we'll keep it." I almost fell off my chair from laughing so hard at your explanation. Children are so literal. Children will also adapt with most situations, especially another sibling. Your little boy looks like he has lots of love to give.
:) Haha....I haven't even tried to explain it to him...but that's just what I'm thinking he might think! When his cousins come...their mommies take care of them and then they eventually go home!
I think he is going to be a good big brother! it's nice he has had some time to be around other babies and you are teaching him now to act with them. Does he understand that there is a baby in your belly?

ReplyDeleteDaniel seems like an amazing big brother! He's still fussy and whiney so we'll see how he copes and hope he feels better!
DeleteAwww, It looks like he's going to make a great big brother. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Myndee!
