Well, it's the end of an era, my friends. I did
mention before that I was going to keep up with our night cloth diapering, but I just can't. They aren't getting clean enough, I wash them every 3 days and they still stink after I wash. They're just saturated, sitting too long waiting to get cleaned and they aren't "agitated" enough in the washing machine, with only 3 diapers, to get clean enough. I've tried to tweak my washing routine, but I just don't think it'll be really "worth" it to keep using those 3 diapers. Nap time is inconsistent, we don't always use a diaper and sometimes he wakes up dry. But even washing 5 diapers every 3 days doesn't really make it worth it to me. So...for the first time since Braden was 1 month old, we're going back to the disposable route - gasp! He's just not ready to be trained through sleep yet, especially nighttime sleep, but I'm hoping that with some fluid restriction training and maturity he'll be ready by the time he's 3. It'll be really nice for me to not have to wash any cloth diapers at all for about the next 5 months...I deserve a break!
My disposable using friends, I turn to you for advice. We are going to use Huggies Overnights for him. I don't support Pampers, and
this is why. What's a good price to be paying? When and where do the sales come? I'm still not impressed to be paying 20-some-odd-dollars on diapers I just throw away, but I can't have my cake and eat it too!
A side note to my American friends is that we can't order cheap diapers from sites like diapers.com or amazon.com....you lucky people!
I have a US post office box if you want to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm not sure we would save that much $$$ but it's worth looking into!
DeleteWe love our Luvs. So much cheaper and we've never had a leak. Even though we CD during the day, we have always used Luvs at night.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion...not sure if we have Luvs in Canada though?? I'll have to keep my eyes open!
DeleteDo you have Target in Canada? I actually really like the Up&Up brand diapers, but Huggies are good, too. Luvs are really cheap, but they get saturated faster than other brands IMO.
ReplyDeleteAs far as sales go, I keep my eyes peeled for coupons in the Sunday paper, and every now and then local grocery stores will advertise sales on different diaper brands.
Nope...No Target! :( Not yet, but coming soon, supposedly.
DeleteWe use Walmart brand during the day and Huggies night time diapers at night. They seem to work the best. Amazon used to be cheapest but now I just buy a box at Walmart. Night time diapers are not cheap but at least it's only 1 diaper a day.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is very true - only 1 per day!
DeleteYou can order diapers online through Walmart. I used Huggies Overnights with the girls and I was really happy with them, no leaks! Not sure on a good price anymore since it's been a while since I've bought them. Would you consider using pull-ups at night? When we potty trained we used pull ups at night and never had a leak.....
ReplyDeleteIs that the best price? We do have Pull Ups but he still wets too much :( Think I'll have to start fluid restriction earlier!
DeleteNot sure if it's the best price. I know Shoppers carries the Huggies Overnights as well so maybe compare the two....
Deletewe use luvs for braedon, they are cheaper than huggies & i NEVER have a problem with him waking up wet! we used them since day one with both boys, never any complaints
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure we don't have Luvs, that's too bad because I've heard great things about them. Thanks so much for the suggestion though.
DeleteFor my first son I bought overnight Huggies, but someone gave me the suggestion of just buying the next size up in regular Huggies for nighttime. So, I started that, and it works great! My second son we have always used Huggies and never have problems. Maybe try the next size up and it will work for you, too. Good luck and remember, it is only one diaper a day. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, yesterday I bought Huggies regulars in size 5 (he's only 28.5 lbs) and he made it through the night, but didn't have a super wet night, so I'm happy. I didn't get a chance to go to Costco, otherwise I'll give the Kirkland brand a try, I've heard good things about those. Thank you!
DeleteCostco has great prices, I've always found them to be the most reasonable since the boxes are huge! I'm not sure what size Braden takes but I bought a box of Huggies for 39.98(sale price) and it has 234 diapers. Regular price is $5 more. They also have the Pull Ups there, and the boxes have night and day ones. Natalie has been wearing the night ones and no leaks yet!!!! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for the suggestion. I guess I could have saved myself a post and just emailed you! ;) A size 5 is a little big on Braden, but I've heard that's good for absorbancy, so I got regular Huggies. How do you like the Kirkland brand?
DeleteHave you tried doing regular sposies at night vs the overnights? Maybe buy a little pack & try it if you haven't. Overnights are MUCH MUCH more expensive than the regular ones. I've been doing overnights for quite a while because they peed through regulars, but I'm not going to buy them once this stash is gone. I think they'll be fine. We started not filling up that glass of milk before bed. Just one with supper & we let them have a glass if they ask. And its made a difference for us. Plus with Liv... since she rarely wakes up wet. That diaper we can even re-use!
ReplyDeleteI think its like $0.15-$0.17 per diaper for regular Walmart diapers. So thats pretty cheap. I hated Walmart diapers with my kids as babies, but as toddlers they work fine. I was going to suggest Target to, as those are my true faves. But Walmart are cheaper. I know people like Walgreens & Cost-co brands too. But I would maybe try a pack of regulars before overnights, because they really are almost twice as expensive.
And I wouldn't do pull-ups for night yet either, because those are more expensive too. Maybe when they get to the point where they are just occasionally wet overnight & you can re-use it. And its easier to take off for middle of the night potty stops.
Hope its an ok transition for you. Hard mentally I imagine. But hopefully its not leak-full.
Thanks so much for your AWESOME advice, as always, Katie! Just love you for being such a good friend!
DeleteEspecially thank you for acknowledging the "mental" transition for mama - I'm at the point where it's more frustrating to keep CD'ing than anything, so thanks again mama!
If you have a heavy wetter at night, then I would STRONGLY suggest the Huggies Overnites. Those are what we use. Normally I can get them for $18 with a coupon for a big ol' box.
ReplyDeleteHe's not a consistent super soaker...only once in awhile so I think the regulars will be fine. Thanks, Kaymee!
DeleteTorin is a really heavy wetter, and what we've found works best is the Huggies Overnights. It actually isn't that expensive even without sales... one box lasts about 2 months.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brit!
DeleteThat hat that he's wearing is adorable!
ReplyDeleteDitto everyone else with the Huggies Overnights. We've been using them since Jack was like 3 months old I think? I've never seen them at any of the big-box stores (BJs, Cosco). I think they retail for about $19/box, which usually lasts us a month.
ReplyDeleteWe use Luvs for daytime occasionally, and they don't leak which is fine, but they swell up like CRAZY, and the little beady things come out more often than with Huggies.
