Well, my good friend Francesca invited me into a DSLR Facebook group and I asked all the lovely professionals and semi-professionals in that forum if it was worth it to spend all the money on that lens or go for the cheaper Canon 50mm f/1.8 which I'd also heard great things about. Their answer...for my skill and the level I shoot at, save yourself $300, try the 1.8 and if I wanted to, upgrade next year. Well, I'm glad I took their advice, because I am SUPER happy with this lens and as of now, I see no reason to upgrade!!
And even better? I got mine for $100 including shipping from eBay! The Sears catalogue sells them for about $130 and same at Future Shop, so I am really enjoying my Christmas present to myself, but still have a ton to learn! I've heard the sweet spot for aperture is around 2.5 and I'm finding I like that best right now! If you have any tips for me with this lens, please leave a comment for me! Here's some pics I've taken with my lens:
He really wanted "chocit toas" for breakfast and the Nutella got EVERYWHERE! haha!
Can I also proudly announce that making a gingerbread house is OFFICIALLY crossed off my Christmas to do list now...and forever!! What a mess! I didn't enjoy it, Braden didn't really care...the candies taste disgusting! What's the point? haha! Oh, and here's some #mommyfail pictures...oops!
"Hep peece, Mommy!"
I loooove that I can get that nice bokeh effect now! Just have to work on getting my images sharper and not so grainy! And from yesterday AM...
As excited as I am to get rid of "soo" when he turns 2...it is kinda cute and I'm glad I have some pics!
So there you have it! Loving my gift, lots and lots more to learn!

What beautiful pictures! And I absolutely love the penguin pajamas!
ReplyDeleteI want that lens so badly! I think I might be picking one up after the holidays! Also, I've been looking for those PJs for my 8 month old. I have them in 3T for my 3year old, but wanted matching footie ones for my younger son, but couldn't find them anywhere!
ReplyDeleteJealous! I'll be looking into this lens as well. Can't get mine to Bokeh. Meh :/
ReplyDeleteOur gingerbread house was a total and complete disaster!!! I'll blame it on Ben. - Buying a new lens for my camera is on my list for boxing day! My kit just is NOT cutting it :(
ReplyDeleteLOVE all the pictures you took. I'll need to put that on my Christmas or birthday list.
