Braden's Bedtime Game

So within the last week or so, Braden has taken to singing. He sings ALL.THE.TIME! I love it, though. Jay usually puts him to bed and they have quite the routine. They sing about 6 songs together...and this is what it looks like. Braden put Jay to "bed" earlier this week!

So you caught "Twinkle, Twinkle", a bit of "The Elephant Show" song, "Thomas & Friends", a grace song "Johnny Appleseed" and "This is the Day". Aaaand Ethan grunting at the end!

Hope you enjoy as much as we do! Happy Sunday!

Bradenisms: Kids Really Do Say The Darndest!

I am so absolutely in love with Braden's age right now. He's over 2 years 8 months and his language seems to improve every day. The things this child comes up with to say...have to be shared!

The little boy who stole my heart...and calls me Mommy!
"Braden, do you want to go shopping with Mommy to Walmart today?
"No. I hafta stay home and have a poop and eat a big mushko [marshmallow]!"

...and about 2 hours later he delivered on that statement!

"Mommy, I hafta go to work wif Daddy. Sowwy, but you stay home."

This weekend, Braden brought this to me...and said
 photo
"Here's a Bandaid for your unders, Mommy!"

And something I have to share that is really cute and I hope you can see the humor in it. It had my mother-in-law near tears she was laughing so hard, so I hope you appreciate this too!

A little background info: I'm pregnant. Shocker, I know. Well, my belly has been growing and growing and Braden is a very smart young man so he has picked up on this. He often says "Mommy's tummy is so bigger! My tummy is little!"

Well, I don't know what age I'm supposed to change my habits around my son as to avoid scarring him for life, but for now...I am still partially naked around him at times. He has showers with his Daddy now, but when he started having showers he would have them with me too. With a baby that will be breastfed every 2-3 hours soon joining our household...there's just no way to "hide" being half naked from my son, nor should I think he should be "shielded" from it as I think it's good for kids to grow up seeing breastfeeding.

Anywho, long story short - he's seen my boobs.

A few months ago as I was in the bathroom doing my hair, he looked up at me and said "what's this called?" as he pointed to my chest. I don't want to teach him that they are "BOOBS" for fear he would say that openly to an obese man in Walmart or something that "that man has big boobs!" so I decided to call them my chest. "This is Mommy's chest....this is Braden's chest!"

He was happy with that, until he came up with his own terminology. You see, my belly button has been an outie since 17 weeks, it was last time too. When I wear shirts, you can sometimes see my belly button...and it kinda looks "nipple-esque", if you will... Jay and I have joked that it's my giant 3rd boob.

So, one day, my child looks at my "chest" and says,

"Oh, Mommy! Look at your little tummies!"

I'm sorry...but how stinkin' cute is that? I totally get why he thinks my boobs are "little tummies" and I love how that kid's mind works!

There were posts going around last month of similar topics...but please feel free to share in the comments of your kid(s) "say the darndest things" moments!

TAT: Things I Actually Say

Potato Harvest 2012
Ever have those moments as a parent where you stop, take a moment and think "Did I actually just say that?" Well, I've had plenty, but one in particular sticks out in my brain lately, I'll set the scene for you...

One day I was making meatballs at the request of one Hungry Farmer. I had my ground beef mixture all ready to go and I use a cookie/ice cream scoop to make my meat balls because a) it saves lots of time, b) it's less messy, and c) my meatballs are all the same size and I don't have to worry about cooking times. So I'm elbow deep scooping up meatbally goodness onto my baking trays, when Braden says, "oh, Mommy! I help you!" Totally normal. He loves to help in the kitchen. So he goes to grab a kitchen chair to bring over to the island...but on his way over he grabs his excavator toy. Then, the light bulb went off in my head and I actually said this:
"Braden, NO! You may not use your digger to scoop up meatballs!"
Now if that isn't a total Boy Mom Moment....I don't know what is! I just love how his little mind works! I totally understand why he wanted to use his excavator to help me with the meatball making process! My pregnancy/not-a-morning-person brain cannot think of anymore "things I actually say" sayings...but I'm sure there's tons more, but that one is my favorite! Come to think of it...here's a few more:
"Braden, what does Mommy say about playing with the dishwasher?" [enter smart ass husband] "Tuh not to!" - Jay in his best Mater voice

"Braden, do NOT lick the (cat, table, floor, etc)! We only lick our food!....sometimes!"
Do you have lots of "things you actually say"? Come on over and link up!

That Time I Found My Doppelgänger!

Firstly, allow me to enlighten you, if you don't know what a doppelgänger is. As defined by Wikipedia:
In modern vernacular it is simply any double or look-alike of a person. It also describes the sensation of having glimpsed oneself in peripheral vision, in a position where there is no chance that it could have been a reflection.
Some of you who watch CBS's How I Met Your Mother will also be familiar with the term:

Well, now I can officially say I have found mine too! My long time friend Casey tweeted this picture to me on Saturday:
My Doppelgänger!

After I was done laughing my arse off...I began to examine it more closely and started to get a little freaked out! Very similar teeth, mouth, and nose...eyes are different (I have a wonky left eye that closes more than my right when I smile - hers is opposite!), but the eyebrows are all off. Oh, and the fact that I have never had my hair that long (or thick) and I never have ever worn a beret or an ascot either!...or modeled, especially for a Sketch Express photobooth!

Have you found your doppelgänger?

A Silly for Sunday

I haven't been blogging about Braden much. I've been working too much, to tell you the truth. Feels like I'm never at home. No new pictures, no new videos. Well, except this one. This is how I woke up 1 morning last week. To Braden singing on the monitor... (You REALLY have to crank up the noise!)

I wish I woke up this happy! Happy Sunday, everyone!

TAT: "Advice" For Mommies-To-Be

I haven't done a blog hop for a long time. I need a break from Maui & birthday posts, so here is my post for this week's Toddle Along Tuesday.
TAT

  1. Believe everything that everyone tells you. It is surely true.
  2. You're pregnant. Don't even think about drinking alcohol, caffeine, or eating soft cheese, deli meat, shell fish, processed sugars, or anything non-organic.
  3. Make a birth plan. The longer and more in detail, the better. If you don't follow it exactly as you have written it. You fail.
  4. You want to have a natural childbirth? 90% of people you tell this to will tell you you're crazy so you should probably change your mind and just get that epidural, or heck...try to find a doc who will schedule your c-section on the perfect day and time, whatever works best, ya know.
  5. On the other hand, if you do want an epidural, the tables will turn and everyone will tell you that you shouldn't drug up your baby to give birth to it. Epidurals are like...totally dangerous, you know?
  6. If you co-sleep you are wrong.
  7. If you let that poor little newborn sleep in a crib in a lonely room all by itself, you are also wrong.
  8. Breastfeeding? Wrong.
  9. Formula feeding? Also wrong.
  10. Definitely don't even try to keep up with housework. It's not worth the energy, you should just give up and let that all go to hell and try to recreate the leaning tower of Pisa with dishes piling up in your kitchen sink. (That was my PERSONAL "best" advice that I got as a first time mom-to-be!)
  11. You will sleep just perfectly and be so well rested before that baby comes, I promise.
  12. You will have to pee every 5 minutes for the rest of your life.
  13. Don't even think about giving that baby solid foods until it is 6 months old, or I'll call child services.
  14. Make sure you have your hair dresser on call for when you go into labor. Go and get a nice wash, dry, and style and might as well get your make-up done too, you want to look perfect for those first pictures after the baby comes, because really it's not that hard to give birth to a watermelon!
  15. Your baby will sleep through the night the first night you come home, if not, there's something wrong with it, or more realistically, there's something wrong with you.
  16. Your husband shouldn't have to help out at all, so don't even ask.
  17. Do you feed your baby chemicals? Do you feed your baby food from a jar? Is that organic?
  18. Don't let them have a soother. But also, don't let them suck their thumbs.
  19. As soon as that baby is born, people will ask you when you're going to have another, so you better have a good answer prepared.
  20. Do as the celebrities do. Drink a shot of wheatgrass every day, soak your feet in ice water as to prevent swelling, oh. And energy crystals, get you some energy crystals....whatever the heck those are.
I hope you all know me well enough to know that that was 100% complete sarcastic BS. Want to know my real advice for all my mommy-to-be friends?
Do whatever works for YOU and YOU alone. Be confident in the choices you make for you and your family and don't ever feel that you should have to defend them to anyone!
I also firmly believe that a pregnant mama should enjoy all the "me" time she can, especially first time mamas. Your life is never going to be the same. It will change for all the better, but it will still never be the same so enjoy all the YOU time you can get!

Also, get through the first 6 weeks with your newborn, and it gets better after that. That's how it was for me and a lot of my personal friends. Have fun with your pregnancy and newborn and do what works for YOU!

Happy Movember!

I actually hate "movember". Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard this term before. What it stands for is "moustache November". Where every guy who can grow facial hair, and even some who can't...grow moustaches for the month of November. It actually can be a good cause, to raise money for prostate cancer, and since Braden can't grow a moustache yet...
Bath Fun! And just in case you missed this photo from before, Jay and I wish you a happy Movember too!
Here's my favorite celebrity moustache...
And here's some awesome moustache stuff from Pinterest:

Fail

So this week's topic from Growing Up Geeky's Toddle Along Tuesday blog hop is fail.
It can be a post about a Mommy fail, pregnancy brain, or just something dumb you've done in general :)
Ummm...so? Where do I begin. So many to choose from! I think I'll share a funny fail from back in the day. Back when I was dating Jay, living in Edmonton, and was a newly graduated RN...and really quite blonde!

I never get sick. I'm a nurse. I have a super-powered immune system. Bugs have to fight knights and slay dragons to infect me. But as I was fully submerged working full-time around germs, germs, germs, I wasn't feeling well I finally got sick. One of those respiratory bugs that leaves you with a dry cough for months and months. Before I made an appointment with my family doc, I thought I'd try to medicate with cough syrup. That's what it's for right? To suppress coughs and what not?

Question: Have you ever gone to the pharmacy to pick out a cough syrup?

Why are there so many??? Oh the different colors, the sizes, the brands! So I enlisted the advice of the trusty pharmacist. I think he recommended some Robitussin, so I bought it and was on my way back home. Before I go any further, I should mention that this was a late night trip to a 24 hour pharmacy after a few drinky poos at the bar (how sick could I have been, really?).

Ok, then...now to the fail part of the post. So I get into the back of my friends vehicle and carefully and responsibly read the instructions of this medicine. I get to the "do not take if" portion of the label and come to...
"Do not take if nursing."
Moment of panic! Fear! I CAN'T TAKE THIS! I'M IN NURSING!!!

Then.............curiosity......then finally head slap. Yes, folks. I had that thought. In a little bit of a drunken haze, I literally thought that label was for nurses not nursing mothers. I'm pretty sure that under "blonde moment" in the dictionary, is this picture:
Peds OR Christmas Party

I really hope that you had a laugh or two at my "fail". :) Please leave a comment or go link up telling me about your fail!

A Little Something' to Laugh Aboot, Eh!!

This blog is all in good spirits, and you all should know me well enough by now, to realize that! :) My dear friend Marie, who I've mentioned more than once, sent me an email last night that had me literally laughing out loud this morning. Her comment to me was: "OH! I've been meaning to ask you. I know you watch Ellen too. There was a woman from Edmonton (I THINK that's where it was) who was one of her game contestants. I was like, OMG!!!! I wonder if Sarah knows her!!!!???? Did you?" This just brought me back to the old Molson Canadian commercials where Americans are making fun of Canadians, and one of the commercials even had a "Hey, do you know Bob from Toronto?" (which I can't find), but here's the "anthem" of when I was in university...they used to play this at the bar, and that's TOTALLY what it reminded me of.

I hope my American friends can look at this and laugh and smile, absolutely love ya and had to share!!
